Are You a Do-It-Yourself Person?

I hate cold calling, and yet, it’s how I make most of my money. Experts will tell you cold calling is a waste of time, but I strongly disagree. Interestingly, when we call someone to offer our services, the biggest pushback we get is, “I’ll do it myself.” Are YOU a do it yourself person? I know that for myself, I hire experts to do my work whenever possible. I’m good at many things, but not so great at others, and that’s where I’d rather let the experts step in. For instance, I worked my way through college as a bookkeeper, and have a degree in accounting. Do I know how to do my own bookkeeping? Sure, I can do it. Do I know how to prepare financial reports? Yes, I do. Can I do my own taxes? Sure, I could. But to what end?

I can do all of these things, but am I the best at it? Have I spent years keeping up with the tax laws? Am I up to date on amortization schedules? No, no and NO. Why put myself through the stress? Instead, I’d much rather have an expert do it!

When prospective clients tell us they are fine to do everything on their own, we wonder, why have they developed this attitude? Did they hire a landlord representative to do their current lease, and have an experience that went badly? Do they dislike sales people, and put us in the same bag? It is perplexing to me, especially as someone who takes pride in helping clients reduce their costs. I often wonder, do they know what the current rate for a building is? Do they know if their landlord falls in the Santa camp, or the Devil camp? We spend at least 40-60 hours on every transaction, in order to make sure it’s done right. We are tenant advocates, plain and simple. If you want representation that will save you money and time, give us a call.
