Do You Believe in Ghosts?
When I was about 6 years old, my aunt and uncle from Ohio visited us. The family had 4 kids ages 2 to 8, along with my brother and sister. I had been introduced to the Ouija board about this time at a friend’s house, and I’d learned about seances on TV. I thought it might be fun to hold a seance in my little sister’s room, so I found a candle and matches, and we marched upstairs to her room in single file. My brother pulled the shades down over the window, and my cousin Paul closed the door so no adults could disturb us.
We sat in a circle, and I lit the candle. Then, we joined hands.
I’m not sure why, but we called for Abraham Lincoln to visit us. I asked for a sign, and the flame flickered, which is when the younger ones started screaming, and the flame went out. My cousin Paul tried to turn the light on, but it wouldn’t turn on. Then, my brother tried to get some light into the room by pulling on the shade, and the entire shade fell on his head. Everyone ran out of the room screaming. I imagine that at some point later on I got in trouble for lighting candles, but it is a fun memory. The best part is that we all got to meet our most famous president, Abraham Lincoln.
