Hiring Agents: Core Values vs. Experience

Hiring Agents: Core Values vs. Experience

When I first opened my business, it felt like we had a revolving door of people. We interviewed people who seemed perfect for the position, and perfect for the company, only to find out, weeks later, that we had made a mistake.

Over the years, I’ve tweaked my hiring formula slightly, and now ascribe to the concept of hiring based upon core values. Our core values here at Compass Commercial are: integrity, optimism, diversity, and entrepreneurial spirit. In the commercial real estate business, integrity can be hard to find, and I’ve learned this the hard way. Now, we look for people who share our core values, and train those people accordingly. In doing so, our turnover has significantly reduced, and as we grow, I know we have the right people in the right seats.

I’m curious as to what other brokerage firms are doing to get the right agents into their office. Share your stories, please!
